The Kottayam Football Foundation (KFF) was established in 2020 with a clear vision: to transform the football landscape in the Kottayam district of Kerala and beyond. We believe football is more than just a game; it's a powerful tool for social change, youth development, and community cohesion.
Our mission is to identify, nurture, and develop football talent at the grassroots level, providing structured training, competitive opportunities, and holistic education to young athletes regardless of their socio-economic background.
We operate with transparency and professionalism, governed by a board of experienced sports administrators, former footballers, and community leaders. Our activities are aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly good health and well-being, quality education, and reduced inequalities.

The inception of Kottayam Football Foundation can be traced back to a shared passion among a group of former footballers, educators, and business professionals in Kottayam who observed a glaring gap in structured football development pathways for children in the region. Despite Kerala's rich sporting culture, many talented youngsters lacked access to proper coaching, facilities, and competitive platforms. Incorporated on [Date of Incorporation from CIN], the Foundation received its license under Section 8 of the Companies Act, 2013, highlighting its non-profit, charitable objectives.
From a modest beginning with a single training ground and 30 children, KFF has grown exponentially. Our growth is a testament to the community's trust and the visible impact of our work. We have partnered with local schools, panchayats, and corporate sponsors to create sustainable football ecosystems. Our flagship program, "Football for All," specifically targets underprivileged children and girls, breaking down barriers to participation. In the 2022-23 season alone, we conducted over 150 free coaching clinics, reaching more than 3000 children.
Our holistic approach integrates football training with life skills education, nutritional guidance, and academic support. We run regular workshops on topics like sportsmanship, digital safety, and career planning. The Foundation also acts as a bridge for talented players to advance to state academies and national clubs. Several of our alumni have secured spots in Kerala's Santosh Trophy training camps and youth I-League teams.
Financial sustainability is achieved through membership fees, grants from the Sports Authority of India and Kerala Sports Council, corporate CSR partnerships, and donations from the Indian diaspora. All our financial statements are audited annually and made available to members, ensuring complete transparency as mandated by our Section 8 status.
Looking ahead, KFF is embarking on an ambitious project to develop a dedicated football complex with a FIFA-standard mini-pitch, dormitories, and a sports science unit. This project, estimated at INR 2.5 Crores, aims to become a regional hub for football excellence. We are in active discussions with the Kerala government for land allocation and with international football bodies for technical support.
The Foundation is an active member of the Kottayam District Football Association (KDFA) and maintains a cordial relationship with the All India Football Federation (AIFF). Our coaching curriculum is aligned with AIFF's grassroots guidelines. We also participate in official KDFA and Kerala Football Association (KFA) leagues across age groups, providing our players with vital match experience.
Beyond competitions, KFF organizes and hosts the annual "Kottayam Youth Football Festival," which attracts teams from across South India. The festival includes tournaments, coaching seminars, and cultural exchanges, fostering a spirit of unity and sportsmanship. It has become a landmark event in Kerala's football calendar.
Our commitment extends to environmental responsibility. We have initiated "Green Goals," a program where we plant trees for every goal scored by our teams in official matches. We also promote the use of reusable bottles and minimize plastic waste at all our events.
The Board of Directors comprises seven individuals with diverse expertise. Mr. Suresh Kumar (Chairman), a former state-level footballer and successful entrepreneur, provides strategic direction. Ms. Priya Nair (Secretary), an educationist, oversees community programs. Other members include a chartered accountant, a sports physiotherapist, a legal advisor, and two senior football coaches. The day-to-day operations are managed by our CEO, Mr. Rohan Mathew, a seasoned sports management professional.
Volunteers are the backbone of KFF. We have a dedicated cadre of over 50 volunteers—university students, parents, and retired professionals—who assist in event management, transportation, media, and mentorship programs. Their selfless service amplifies our impact and keeps operational costs manageable.
In response to the pandemic, KFF quickly adapted by launching "Kick@Home," a digital training module with video tutorials and live Zoom sessions with coaches. We distributed footballs and training equipment to the homes of our athletes to ensure they could stay active during lockdowns. This initiative was widely appreciated and even featured in local media.
For girls' football, we run a special initiative called "She Shoots, She Scores," aimed at increasing female participation and challenging gender stereotypes. We have seen a 200% increase in girls' enrollment over the past two years. Our senior girls' team recently won the district championship, a historic first for Kottayam.
Research and development are also part of our agenda. We collaborate with physical education departments of local colleges to study the impact of football on child development metrics. This data helps us refine our methodologies and advocate for sports policy changes at the local level.
KFF's long-term vision is to establish a full-fledged football academy that can compete with the best in India, providing a clear pathway from grassroots to professional football. We dream of nurturing a player from Kottayam who will one day represent the Indian National Team, inspiring a new generation.
We measure our success not just in trophies, but in the smiles on children's faces, the confidence built on the field, the friendships forged, and the positive values instilled. Every pass, every goal, every training session is a step towards building a healthier, happier, and more united community through football.
